Red VGA indicator stays on even when PC fails to start.
Hey, a short while ago I rebooted my setup and suddenly it wouldn’t start. I checked the motherboard and saw the VGA indicator still lit up. I’ve tried lots of fixes but nothing seems to help. Here’s what I did:
- Swapped out and reinserted the GPU
- Cleared the CMOS settings
- Replaced the CMOS battery
- Double-checked all connections
- Tested every RAM configuration
- Reinstalled the CPU
Still, the light stays on and it won’t let me access BIOS or flash the firmware.
Details about the hardware:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
- GPU: RX 580 8GB
- Motherboard: Gigabyte AORUS B450 PRO
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB
- SSD: Samsung 980 TB
- Power supply: ROG STRIX 750W 80 Plus Gold
It’s frustrating, but I’m not giving up yet.
Check if your motherboard brand appears, then attempt to use a Windows installation USB to see if anything works or if you need to reinstall Windows or switch CPUs.
attempted to start without using the GPU, then tried another PCIe slot with the GPU active. The new diagnostic LEDs now show RGB colors—red for CPU, yellow for RAM, white for GPU, and green for boot sector. This is happening on a Z390 Strix board.
