Red Dead Redemption 2 stands out as one of the most well-optimized titles for PC. After reviewing the digital founder video, they provided a comparison of graphics settings similar to those on PS4 and Xbox settings. The Pro and Xbox One X versions matched closely but offered higher resolution.

My system specifications are an 8700k processor at 5 GHz, 16GB RAM, and a graphics card running at 2080 at 2050 MHz with 16GHz effective speed. This setup allows smooth performance under console settings, achieving 120 fps at 1080p, which is impressive for a competitive FPS experience.

At 1440p with matching console settings, the game runs at 97 fps, making it very responsive and fast enough for smooth play with a keyboard and mouse on a high refresh panel. The 4K at 60fps is ideal for such a demanding title.

Personally, I prefer playing with a controller at 60 fps. If you transfer any game from console to PC and achieve similar frame rates—1080p at 120 fps, 1440p at 100 fps, and 4K at 60 fps—on a high-end system, it shows great performance.

The game looks excellent on consoles, but with these settings, it feels sluggish compared to what Rockstar has provided. They have clearly invested more effort to enhance visuals and performance, making this title future-proof in many ways.

It’s worth noting that the launcher might have issues, and the minimum FPS recorded can vary. Still, overall, Rockstar did an excellent job and deserves recognition for these improvements.

Yep, theres a difference between demanding and unoptimised. RDR2 is most certainly the former.

In the mid-40s, at maximum settings (1440p), it's fine for me. I can easily joke about people claiming their 2080ti can't handle maximum settings.

It's essentially a relaxed experience with a controller-based game, and using a controller keeps the frame rate at 40 or higher.

I experience nausea during frame drops. Bad optimization leads to large FPS fluctuations. A drop from over 100 FPS to 30-40 is mainly due to inefficient caching and draw calls.

RDR 2 becomes quite challenging to play at 4K resolution with a 2080i display. At 1440p Ultra, the frame rates were around 80 frames per second. Using the Hardware Unboxed settings brought me into the 100s. These results are similar to what I see for other AAA titles at 4K without using RT, making it the most demanding game I've encountered so far.

I went back because I struggled to keep up on my rig, which helps me see how others with better setups express their concerns.
