Red CPU indicator light on board
Hey everyone, I’m facing some issues getting my PC to start properly. It’s been a month since I installed it and everything worked perfectly then. Recently, while getting a drink, the machine froze completely. I turned it off by pressing and holding the power button, then tried to restart. The CPU light came on with code 00, all RGB lights were active and the fans ran, even on the cooler. After a few seconds it shut down again, and this cycle keeps happening. I haven’t overclocked the system and my BIOS is current. The AIO cooler also seems properly tightened. Here are the specs: motherboard ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790, CPU Intel i9 14900KS, GPU ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4090, power supply 1000W, RAM 192GB (4x48GB), Corsair DDR5 Vengeance RGB. The meaning of code 00 isn’t clear since it’s not a standard code on this board. I’ve already tried several fixes—changing CMOS, using the reset button, re-seating RAM and GPU, etc. I’m planning to reseat the CPU but don’t have any thermal paste on hand and need the PC up quickly for work. Do I need to reapply fresh paste if I remove the CPU? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Begin by reinserting the CPU. Avoid reusing the paste, as it’s not the main concern right now. The bigger problems are beyond just insufficient paste application. Next, check if the CPU power cable is securely connected and if the 24-pin connector is fully plugged in.
For those facing this problem later, it turns out my CPU was no longer functioning, only a month after purchase. Fortunately, I have a 13900K from my previous system that booted up immediately, though it will be returned and replaced.
