I want to create a Windows 10 recovery disc. If I need to reset everything, I can. My problem is my Windows key. Was it included with the upgrade from Windows 8.1, or do I have to locate it? If I need to track it down, here’s how I’d find it.

The tool is a utility named key finder, which effectively extracts Windows product keys from the registry. https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

Locate your key in three seconds. Begin by launching an Administrator Command Prompt—either via the Start menu or by using Windows Key + X to open Command Prompt (Admin). Input the specified command and hit Enter.

Your backup storage method is entirely up to you. I favor USB drives, though optical media is becoming less common. Feel free to choose what suits you best.

USB is simpler—just run Rufus and drop the .iso file in. Check your comment to locate the key up ^

You can either run the recovery setup in the control panel or get the ISO from the Microsoft download page. Choose the method that suits you best.

Get a clean ISO from the Microsoft site and use Rufus to burn it onto a USB stick.
