Recovering data from a damaged hard drive involves specialized techniques.
I recently received a data recovery job. My coworker asked me to check if I could retrieve files from his Seagate 160GB hard drive. He previously took his netbook to a computer shop and requested they back up his data. Unfortunately, the shop never performed a backup and instead completely erased the drive, making the files inaccessible. I understand there are tools available to recover data from such situations. The drive is currently functioning properly. I’d like to obtain his pictures, at least. I can only use free software, but I’ve heard Kali or Backtrack might be able to help. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
