I finally made the decision: I ordered the der8auer delidding tool, some Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut, and planned to open up my 8700k in a few days. I mostly followed der8auer's instructions. However, he suggests using UHU high heat silicone glue. But this isn't available in the US (at least not for a reasonable price). Can anyone recommend a good adhesive silicone glue that is widely available in the US? It should be a small tube with a good dosing tip and work perfectly for this job? Also, what glue did you use to reattach the IHS? Thanks!

Just to let you know, you don't really need to re-glue it if you don't want to; the CPU bracket will keep the IHS secure during installation. I didn't do it myself.
