Good Morning, everyone,

I’m seeking guidance on choosing some components for a new custom loop gaming system. The purchase is urgent, with a budget around 2500 USD. The intended uses span gaming, movies, office tasks, and computer-aided design. I have the parts available locally:

Power Supply: Corsair SF1000, NIB
Monitor: Samsung 49" Odyssey OLED (G93SC) Series Curved Gaming Monitor, QD-OLED, 240Hz, 0.03ms, DQHD, G-Sync compatible, AMD FreeSync
Storage Drive: 4TB NVME
All other peripherals are on hand

System Specifications:
- RAM: King Bank DDR4 4000MHZ 32 GB CL19
- Cooling Solution: SwiftTech APOGEE DRIVE II, NexXxoS MONSTA FULL COPPER 200mm x 200mm x 85mm, Noctua NF-A20 PWM 200mm fan
- Chassis: Pull-out keyboard tray
Preferred retailers include Amazon, Newegg, MicroCenter, eBay, Titan Rig, and Performance-PCs.

Country of origin: USA

Part preferences:
- Intel CPU
- NVIDIA GPU with 24GB VRAM
Overclocking: Yes
SLI/CROSSFIRE: No
Monitor resolution: 5120 x 1440

Additional notes:
- My current setup is an RTX 4090, which I believe offers the best value.
- The GPU purchase might be delayed if needed, as I already have an RTX 3080 that can be used temporarily.

Links for reference:
- Monitor: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CDQMQQS2?ref...n_title_10
- PSU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D45RN3KZ?ref...in_title_1
- RAM: https://www.amazon.com/KingBank-Desktop-...B0DF7FKB16
- APOGEE DRIVE II: http://www.swiftech.com/apogeedrive2.aspx
- Radierer: https://www.performance-pcs.com/pro...kq...K02Em7crTU

My thoughts: I’m leaning toward the RTX 4090 as the most cost-effective option at this stage.

Best regards,
Larry

Your limiter in this situation would block the pump, depending on the hardware you have. Both AMD AM4 and Intel LGA 115x options are available. You can check either of these; for AMD, the link provides details:
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/mother...ge=1&E=2,7
For Intel, the Reddit thread discusses relevant brackets:

Additionally, the height difference in the IHS after LGA115x could affect whether your mounting mechanism will bend the CPU pins, making a POST unlikely.

How crucial is it for you to recycle all your components? Do you have a specific example in mind? Is size an important consideration? What is your current setup? Are you satisfied with the results?

YIKES! I hadn't thought about the Intel CPU change at all! Obviously, I'm using an I9-9900KS for 115x. Do you think it's really needed to switch to an LGA 1700 CPU, or will the i9-9900KS still work? If I do need to upgrade, should I purchase the EK combo block, pump, and reservoir for the LGA 1700, or can I save $300 by not doing it?

Can you confirm if it will be possible to accommodate a 4090 within that budget?

Your i9-9900KS offers performance similar to a newer i5-13400 when paired with an air cooler. Certain ITX boards can also utilize your 32GB DDR4 RAM.

Consider these tests to decide:
Some games are graphics-heavy, such as fast action shooters.
Others are CPU-bound, like strategy, Sims, or MMOs.
Multiplayer often requires many threads.
You should determine which type suits you best.

Discover more about your keyboard shelf. A picture could help clarify things. What height can an air cooler or water block take to fit your area? Modern processors come in different sizes, and higher-end models use larger bins. As a result, overclocking no longer offers much benefit. The turbo feature that enhances one or two cores is the preferred choice for gamers.

Maybe it’s best to merge what I have here, like combining the i9-9900KS and RTX 3080, and check if that works out. I’m completely unsure what would be a good fit... considering all the generations before this setup, it seems improbable. I really don’t want to waste time and effort just to disassemble and start over.
This should be the advice I’m after.

I would opt for the 3080 and hold off on spending until the 5080 with 24GB VRAM is released, unless a favorable offer on a 4090 for $1200–$1600 is available. I’d retain the CPU at this time. Once the 5080 24GB model hits the market around $1200–$1500, you could upgrade to an AM5 or multiple Intel options.
