recommendations for BIOS - stable / FX-8350 / Gigabyte 970A-UD3P
Hi all
I tried searching but nothing matches exactly what I need.
I want to overclock my AMD rig, but keep it running at lower power when not in use.
No major changes are necessary, just a light adjustment is okay.
I’m a bit confused about the BIOS settings.
When I first installed it, I adjusted the clock ratio and it was running at around 4.2, but the fan was loud.
Recently I reset it to defaults and made some tweaks.
I’m unsure whether to increase voltages, Vcore, or HT?
Load Line Calibration?
Also, I read about disabling Turbo Core—should I do that?
Will it consume more or less power when idle?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brad
Load line calibration fine-tunes the voltage to ensure stability when detecting insufficient voltage during processor load. When set to auto and no crashes occur, maintain this setting. Turbo core maintains overclock performance under load, reducing it when idle, which increases power consumption and fan noise. However, it ensures consistent overclock operation across all applications, regardless of size.
Changing the clock speed to 4.2GHz is acceptable. Ensure your VCore remains set to auto if you're unsure about adjusting it manually.
The rapid fan spinning comes from the default fan curve. Find the fan settings and adjust the CPU fan speed downward on the curve.
Thanks sounds good.
Regarding Load Line Calibration, some users have adjusted it to medium—do you need to do that or keep it auto?
Also, I thought turning off Turbo Core was a good idea.
