Recommendations for an affordable 4k KVM device
I'm looking for an affordable KVM that fits this configuration:
Work laptop connected to Dell Precision 5560 with two USB-C ports.
Desktop setup includes a low-end machine with USB-A, USB-B, and a GeForce GT1030 (HDMI and DVI).
Two monitors: an LG 34-inch ultrawide (supports DP and HDMI) at 3440x1440, and an older Samsung B2440 (DVI and VGA only) at 1920x1080.
Keyboard and mouse via USB.
The KVM needs to support all peripherals and switch effortlessly between laptop and desktop. It should also offer extra USB ports for ease. The main challenge is connecting two monitors with a combined resolution of 5360 (3440 + 1920). Most options I've found cost over $500, which is extremely costly. It seems such high-end setups are rare these days...
Any recommendations? A budget of around $150 USD should work, increasing to $200 if it meets quality needs.
Have you checked something similar? It costs a bit more than your budget, but the KVMs I've seen are cheaper, so I wouldn't suggest it.
I haven't encountered this item before... I was checking out Aten products, but they seem more suited for larger organizations, which explains the higher cost...
This unit (TES HKS0402A1U) appears to be satisfactory, just a bit beyond my budget. I'm getting tired of dealing with loose cables and constantly plugging and unplugging it every day...
Do you know anything about this brand? The reviews on Amazon are generally positive. I'm considering giving it a try.
I went ahead and bought the same product you suggested. It functions well and appears quite stable so far, though the switching yellow button seems a bit inconsistent—sometimes I need to press it 2-3 times until it recognizes the attempt. Raising the pressure doesn’t seem to make a difference either. It looks like there might be a dirty contact issue. Overall, it works as advertised and I’m satisfied with my purchase so far! Thanks for the recommendation—it was really helpful!
Acknowledged on the button, complete interaction with the button is beneficial. Hope it works well for you.
