I enjoy improving an older D-Link desktop USB hub. The device runs on its own power supply. It's unclear if newer models still require one. I notice some still do.
The hub is linked to a Dell XPS 8940 desktop (basic).
Most USB hubs come with a short cable for laptops, but mine is on the desk, so I need about 6 feet of cable.
USB 3.1 looks good. I don't need many ports—perhaps six would suffice.
Would anyone could suggest something?

I generally avoid hubs because they often cause issues that can't be fixed by troubleshooting or swapping parts. Instead, managing cables with solutions like BlueLounge's Cable drops or similar options—whether those are their products or not—and connecting them to the back of the desktop might be a better approach. Your prebuilt setup appears to have many USB ports on both sides.

What budget have you allocated for this purchase? Where are you located or where do you prefer to buy?

Thanks - a much better solution was found, it turns out the cables are sufficient in length.
