Recommendation for memory upgrade on Acer Aspire one KAV60 (hlz-kav60(b))
Recommendation for memory upgrade on Acer Aspire one KAV60 (hlz-kav60(b))
My sister owns an older Acer Aspire laptop model KAV60 (hlz-kav60(b)). It only has a maximum RAM capacity of 2GB. The machine has just one RAM slot. Right now it contains:
- Elpida
1GB 1Rx8 PC2-6400S-666 (Taiwan-made)
DDR2, 800Mhz (researched online)
The reason for writing this is that in a nearby computer store they have these options available:
Memoria Ram SODIMM DDR2 2GB/800MHz
Golden
Memoria Ram SODIMM DDR2 2GB/800MHz
Casper
All made in China – which one should I choose and why?
The laptop will run Linux Peppermint 32 bits for client tasks, like SSH and Web Console (Jenkins).
Do you have any links to the memory you're considering? I wouldn't purchase anything that isn't branded because of worries about reliability and the risk of downtime from such issues. You should consider a branded one like Crucial, Mushkin, G.Skill, Kingston, or Elpida—specifically a 2GB DDR2-800MHz 1.8v SO-DIMM RAM stick. If you're in the U.S.A or Europe, you can find the kit I mentioned on Ebay.
Thank you for your message.
Not yet - but I noted your request for product photos in their packaging to verify the codes online.
The items mentioned are "Golden" and "Casper".
Based on known manufacturers, DDR2 technology is outdated; they likely use DDR3 or DDR4 now. However, it might be possible to find second-hand units with DDR2, which could pose a risk.
I will share the exact codes tomorrow.
