Recommendation for Logitech Wave upgrade
Recommendation for Logitech Wave upgrade
I own an old Logitech Wave and am seeking a desktop keyboard upgrade. Could you suggest something that matches these features:
- silent-ish operation
- backlit display
- includes media keys (volume up/down, play/pause, mute)
- has a palm rest
I play some occasional games, mainly strategy and FPS, not competitive, mostly productive tasks.
I’ve considered the Corsair Gaming K55 but heard it lacks a good palm rest, which makes me hesitant. Also, I’m used to membrane keyboards and worry about the noise level.
Thank you.
If the palm rest is the issue, you can always place a cloth underneath for added comfort. You might also want to consider the K55 palm rest, as it seems to suit your needs. Based on what you mentioned, the Corsair Gaming K55 looks like a good option. I also discovered the Corsair K57 RGB, which is quite similar to the K55. The main difference is that the K55 is wired while the K57 is wireless. It depends on your preference, which one you prefer.
I owned a €20 membrane keyboard for more than five years, used it as a child to practice typing quickly, and it worked well for me. However, it began to malfunction, failing to register key presses. I didn’t notice any issues because I wasn’t expecting it to last that long. My fingers never experienced discomfort or typing difficulties. Around January 2022, I purchased a Redragon K557, which came with loud Outemu blue switches. Recently, these started bothering me. Since the keyboard is hot-swappable, I upgraded to a set of 70 black switches from Outemu for around €10, which are nearly silent. From my experience, fast typing is easier on mechanical keyboards because you only need to press keys about halfway, similar to the click sound from mechanical switches. This means two options: stick with a membrane keyboard for silence (though typing speed may slow down) or opt for a mechanical keyboard and switch switches if silence is important.
As you might have observed, my Redragon K557 includes a palm rest, though it’s smaller than those from Corsair and made of plastic, which could be less comfortable. It isn’t ideal for frequent use, especially with larger hands, but it works fine for my needs. The keyboard also features multimedia keys, many RGB options, and is hot-swappable. In the box, you receive two samples: red, blue (already installed), brown, and black switches, so you can test them to find the best fit.
I would appreciate your suggestions. The same rules are used as before, just mechanically. Thank you for your guidance thus far.
I suggest the CORSAIR STRAFE RGB MK.2.
It includes everything necessary. Dedicated multimedia and volume keys, large palm rest, RGB backlight, and Cherry MX Silent switches.
Here is a detailed review to give you a clearer understanding.
