Recent updates causing unexpected failures
Hey there, friends. My buddy just got a new PC and now he's running into some problems. He’s playing those demanding games like DayZ and Escape from Tarkov—CSGO works fine. But when he runs them, the system crashes instantly. Before the crash, his temperatures stayed under 70°C, and everything seemed normal. We’ve tried changing the RAM, reinstalling drivers, updating the chipset and BIOS, checking SFC with CMD, but still gets crashed randomly. The thing is, he’s still using the same Windows version from his old machine, and he doesn’t want to start over. Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks for the help!
They have another installation medium available for a clean setup. Was their system moved from an Intel architecture to an AMD one?
Turn off any overclocking features such as PBO and XMP. If they remain disabled or don’t resolve the issue, proceed by testing each RAM one at a time. This isn’t always a concern. I tried this myself when upgrading from i7 to 5950x (I was somewhat careless for a month).
Absolutely, it shows it's achievable. That was my goal. With Windows 10 or 11, drivers should generally work well after hardware updates. Most issues might stem from installation problems or corrupted driver files, which can still occur. Since this is happening under more stress, I think there could be other underlying concerns before the operating system itself.
He upgraded from an i7 4790k and believes a new Windows setup might be necessary to resolve the issue.
That's essentially what I've summarized myself, though he didn't really want to do it, so I was hoping there was another option, but still cheers! Chief.
it was intended to be handled. the ability to move windows across various hardware is not a built-in capability. it sometimes functions properly, but it wasn't meant to be done so seamlessly. unless you were using windows 95 or 98, you'd likely need to reinstall it if it didn’t perform well.
I’d definitely go for a new setup. Make sure to back up any important information first.
