Recent updates are causing multiple games to experience crashes shortly after release.
System: OS version is Windows 11 Pro
GPU model: ASUS TUF RTX 4090 OC Edition
CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
Motherboard: MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk Max
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB, 64GB (2 sticks)
Power supply: Corsair RM1000e Fully Modular
Problem: I just assembled this PC using parts from Newegg. It’s been a challenge getting everything up and running. Drivers installation was particularly tricky—I suspect that might be the issue. Once I booted up, games would crash shortly afterward.
Testing: I tried Star Citizen and Battlefield 2042. Both experienced crashes either right after launch or after a short delay. The worst was when I selected a game mode before the crash occurred.
Error logs: In the attached screenshot, I see a fault with EADesktop.exe (version 13.121.0.5634) and a GLESv2.dll issue (version 2.1.19909.0). The error code is 0xc0000409, and the process ID is 0x2FC4.
Investigation: Checked via Event Viewer, but the details are unclear. The GPU fans seem to increase during each crash, suggesting a possible GPU-related problem.
What I’ve attempted:
- Restarted the PC
- Updated GPU drivers
- Installed Direct X from Microsoft
- Reinstalled GPU drivers using DDU
Still facing issues. Any tips or further steps?
Have you considered lowering the resolution in NVIDIA experience to cut power usage? I understand some might say otherwise, but a 1kW PSU seems insufficient for a 4090 at least when overclocked. What other components are you using—how many fans, pumps, USB devices, etc.?
I tried it at 1080p and managed to get into a game, but it shut down right after connecting. My setup includes a H150i Corsair AIO cooler with three intake fans front, two on top and one back for exhaust. There are three SSDs—one 500GB, one 1TB, and one 2TB—all M.2 NVMe from Samsung. About six USB devices are connected, plus two monitors linked to the GPU, with 1440p and 1080p as secondary options.
I also tested reducing the resolution to 720p with a windowed view, but it crashed after a few minutes.
Are the light diodes visible near the power plug on your GPU? Also, one of the programs that frequently crashes requires .NET to be installed. You'll need to add .NET to enable its operation.
It functions properly and I observed it changes color when unplugged (that’s logical). While the computer is running, the indicator remains inactive.
I just ran a test and kept watching the card light. It never flashed when the game crashed. Here are the SFC/scannow results.
