Recent update of Windows 10 continues to encounter issues
Hey there, I just changed my setup into a fresh case and added a new graphics card plus an aio cooler. A few days back I noticed my PC running sluggishly, and another issue I’ve seen is that the start bar clears blank when I click on the hidden icons button—if I do it a few times maybe it’ll fix itself. By sluggish I mean things like when I try to format a drive, a letter pops up every 10 seconds while I type. And dragging the window around gives a blurry mess of lines. Yesterday I formatted the hard drive, reinstalled Windows 10, added the drivers for my new RX460, installed Avast, moved some games from other drives to the desktop, and now the PC is still acting the same as before it was. Even though CPU usage looks low (just about 10%), it’s frustrating. Any suggestions? Maybe running diagnostics or a diagnostic tool could help pinpoint the problem. By the way, I tried overclocking my new RX460 with Sapphire Trixx—seems to be working well in games and temperature stability. Could that be the cause? AMD 860k, Asus motherboard, 8GB DDR3, Gigabyte RX460, 2GB Windows 10 x64.
Go back to standard time displays. If that doesn’t work, your system is probably not functioning.
When I enable AMD Overdrive for performance tweaks, my system becomes very slow, just like you mentioned. Using BIOS/UEFI for an OC also causes the same sluggishness. Setting a reasonable turbo limit resolves the issue, and according to CPUZ, I’m actually achieving those high turbo speeds (around 4.4–4.5 GHz).
I recently reversed the overclock and confirmed that Sapphire Trixx doesn’t start up automatically. After rebooting, the issue persisted.
Just a note, my OS is running on an SSD for reliability. You mentioned having another identical SSD in the same brand and size—maybe I’ll attempt a Windows installation there and check if the issue continues. What do you think? Also, observe how the windows appear as I move the drive.
I wanted to share an update about what happened. It turned out to be a Windows update issue. After a clean installation, everything functioned properly. Each time I updated Windows the next day, it didn’t auto-update and I observed the issues right away. I contacted Microsoft tech support multiple times, but they had to physically take over my computer four separate times. Eventually, the last person I spoke to suggested going through Services and disabling updates unofficially. That worked. Now I’m wondering whether I should keep updates disabled permanently or turn them back on later. What do you think? If I wait a month or two and then enable updates again, I expect it will go smoothly—probably with a new set of updates.
