Hi, Our new PC has some installation problems with Windows 11. The hardware specs look good: RTX 5080 MSI mag tomahawk x870e, Wi-Fi 9800x3d, Corsair vengeance rgb DDR5 RAM, 6000MHz, Samsung 990 Pro Evo. We can boot into BIOS without issues, but loading Windows from the USB stick fails, showing a black screen. On another working USB we managed to start Windows normally. However, connecting Ethernet or Wi-Fi requires installing the driver via USB. When we try updates through Windows Update, the system restarts and displays a black screen each time. There are no error codes on the motherboard, and we can enter BIOS fine, yet the system appears to load but doesn’t show GPU or CPU activity. We suspect a possible motherboard issue, though we’re not sure. We’ve also updated the BIOS to the latest non-beta version, but it didn’t help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The chip on your motherboard could lack the necessary drivers in Windows Update yet. This isn't necessarily a sign of a broken system. If it doesn’t pass POST, the issue might lie with a faulty SSD or an incorrect installation file. You need to burn the USB drive and obtain the ISO from a reliable source.
We downloaded the creation media from the ms website and followed their setup steps. The first installation worked fine, and we accessed Windows afterward. However, after the Windows update, the black screen problem emerged. We have cleared the drives and reinstalled Windows multiple times, but the issue persists each time updates are applied. The USB was formatted beforehand and appeared clean before installing Windows. We've tested other USB drives without success. We also attempted to install Windows 10 and then upgraded to Windows 11, but the same problem continued. This suggests the SSD might be fine since it allowed us to create a stable initial version of Windows.
Attempt to install ISO from Microsoft and use Rufus for burning. I usually avoid Media Creation Tool because it doesn’t work well for me. Instead of upgrading to Windows 11, consider installing it directly and using the "Fix problems using Windows Update" option. It probably won’t change much.
