Recent RTX 3080 model leads to unusual malfunctions and display issues
Hello, I purchased an ASUS Strix 3080 from eBay and it’s experiencing some unusual glitches. A video will be shared later. The issues appear at odd moments—when the PC starts up, during idle, or when running intensive tasks like Heaven Benchmark. The severity varies with system load; on idle it shows slight screen flickering, while using Heaven it drops FPS to just 10 out of 200. Closing Heaven removes the problem, and similar issues occur with Diablo or Minecraft when shaders are active. Occasionally the screen goes black, forcing a shutdown. This happens even in Safe Mode, which is surprising. The temperature readings are normal—MSI afterburner shows around 44°C idle and about 70°C during use.
Here’s my setup: Windows 11, version 10.0.22621, Asus ROG B450-B450F motherboard, BIOS 5102. RAM: 2x8GB Corsair DDR4-3200 (cmw16gx4m2c3200c16). GPU: ASUS RTX 3080. Power supply: Bequiet 600W. I’m planning to replace the PSU since it feels underpowered, though it also works in idle.
I’ve tried several fixes: used DDU to uninstall old AMD drivers, reinstalled the latest NVIDIA drivers, undervolted the GPU, updated VBIOS, cleaned the card, reinstalled drivers, and even swapped PCIe cables (two different connectors). Nothing changed. I suspect a connection or power issue rather than hardware faults.
Please let me know if this helps or if you need further guidance.
It's quite unusual. The GPU might be struggling, possibly indicating VRAM failure. It could also mean you purchased a faulty device that was being sold on eBay.
I’m trying to figure out what you mean. It sounds like you’re wondering if someone seemed suspicious or if it was just a normal person selling an old GPU.
