There are several recent real-time strategy titles worth checking out. While it's been a while since I played a top-tier RTS, there are fresh options released in the last few years that capture the same strategic depth you enjoyed in older games.
Halo Wars 2 is a first-person shooter game set in the Halo universe.
If you were a fan of Total Annihilation or Supreme Commander there is a newer game out called Planetary Annihilation. It plays like Total Annihilation but your maps are spherical planetoids and you have to wage war between systems, it's worth checking out.
Not the dawn of war 3—really don’t go for it. Natural selection, MOBA games, and military FPS all seem to manipulate people. Instead, consider Star Craft 2 with the newest update. That means SC2 is now available to play.
Cossacks 3 meets a desert setting—possibly Kharak or a goo-like world. It's a strategic RTS with base-building, inspired by Ashes of the Singularity, escalation themes, and elements from Dawn of War 3 and Act of Aggression.
