Put together my new computer today, and am running into a some issues booting with all 4 ram sticks populated. MB: MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 (Latest Bios 1.70) NEW RAM: 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz (leftover from previous 6700k build) CPU: Intel 12600k NEW Cooler: MSI MAG240 water cooler PSU: EVGA 750 GQ, 80+ GOLD GPU: MSI Geforce RTX 2080 When attempting to boot with all 4 dims populated i get a solid yellow light on the "DRAM" error code light and no display. If i remove two, from any position i am sometimes able to boot after a few seconds. I have taken each ram stick and inserted them solo and booted to the bios. So all of them seem work individually. CPU removed and no bent pins found. Re-seated and clamped down. Weird Part: If i sit there and flick the PSU power switch on and off for a while. eventually i see it flip back and forth between the "CPU" and "DRAM" lights (memory training?) and sometimes, it boots to windows with all memory accounted for. Long story short, i seemingly cant shut my computer off and turn it back on without having to tear it apart and troubleshoot an unknown issue. I'm writing this message on it at the moment. Does this sound like a bad board, bad ram, or something else. It's not my first rodeo but i am stumped. Thanks

I'm not sure how to interpret your Ram section. It seems you're asking about using two different RAM brands or pairs. If that's the case, it could be causing issues when trying to boot with all four. Usually, you should be able to boot with one pair at a time without problems. What do you mean by sometimes it works after a few seconds? After shutting down, it might not be safe to boot again.

I purchased two identical sets, each 8GB, totaling 32GB across the four slots. Any mix of memory in the A2 and B2 slots will start up, but all four configurations lead to a freeze. That’s when I notice the bright yellow "DRAM" light on the board. I’m puzzled by this, but after turning the power on and off briefly, it occasionally functions (about a 1 in 10 chance).

The problem appears only when using all four memory slots simultaneously. Right now I’m running the system with just two RAM sticks, but I want to enable all four for stable performance. It’s urgent since new hardware isn’t arriving soon, so I’m gathering any available information possible.

You could run a Memtest on the drives to verify their health. It might also help if your BIOS adjusts settings across all four ports, though I’m not sure how to confirm they won’t post even if that happens.

This could be relevant too. Make sure you're not mixing old and new components.

It appears to be a conversation about AMD and not directly related to my concern.

The conversation highlights how RAM compatibility can vary depending on module selection. It notes that mixing different RAM modules is often possible if they share similar specifications, though this isn't always reliable. The rise in DDR4 memory has made mismatched or untested modules more common, as manufacturers often source chips from multiple suppliers. This can lead to issues even when parts share the same part number, as seen in examples where different configurations and sizes exist within the same part designation. The discussion also touches on the challenges of sourcing identical modules later in a build.

All four memory units were bought together at once. They appear to be the same set. No, they aren't a collection of four separate packs. It was two sets of 2x8GB modules from Corsair.
