Hi, I'm new to updating my BIOS. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and an ASUS B450 Plus gaming motherboard. I've already applied the BIOS to make the board compatible with my CPU, but I'm wondering if I still need to use an older CPU model to update the BIOS myself. Can I just download the update and install it without changing my CPU every time?

Upcoming BIOS version will support your 3600 model. You don’t have to rely on an older processor.

Deli clarified that updating the BIOS won’t function in the way described. Updating it can improve hardware compatibility, but it doesn’t require using outdated equipment to enable the process. This approach wouldn’t be practical.

A good rule of thumb is to not update the BIOS unless you have a specific reason to. If you don't have a real reason to you have more to lose than gain should something go wrong (such as a power outage). Good reasons include: Increase hardware compatibility Bug fixes Security patches Better overclocking (if you're into that) If you have an indecisive or spontaneous reason to do it then in all likelihood you shouldn't do it.

Looking at the manufacturer’s updates, the TUF B450-PLUS GAMING BIOS 1816 includes improvements for performance and fixes for Destiny 2 compatibility, as well as better EZFlash speed. The changes also address Gen 4 support issues with Ryzen 3000 CPUs and remove it when needed. If you prioritize stability and compatibility over Gen 4 features, the update seems worthwhile.

On the other hand, if the voltage is too high, increasing the multiplier could help boost its speed—just check compatibility before making changes. Assess whether this affects your gaming experience; if it does, it’s definitely worth considering.

I’m relying on my stock cooler, which means I probably won’t be able to OC the CPU. I’ll attempt to lower the voltage and check if it helps reduce temperatures, but I’ll keep looking for a better CPU cooler before considering any overclocking.

It's easy to notice changes in temperature. Just remove around 0.01V to 0.025V gradually (step by step). Verify stability and you'll observe the readings decreasing.
