Hello everyone, I recently moved from the Ryzen 2600 to the 5600X on an AsRock B450 PRO4. I purchased the 5600X from a retailer at a reasonable price and didn’t plan to upgrade the motherboard. I updated the BIOS to version P5.00 without any problems, and the system initially performed well. However, it has crashed twice within the past day. The event viewer indicates an issue with the CPU. After the first crash, I reinstalled the chipset drivers, but that didn’t prevent another crash. I’m wondering if the CPU is faulty or if using the 5000 series on this board is causing problems. The system and board have operated normally for several years before this change. Temperatures stay below 60°C, and crashes haven’t occurred during gaming or under load—just when browsing a browser. What should be my next troubleshooting steps? First crash: 1. It appears there may be a software-related problem. I’d consider fully removing all AMD applications and beginning anew. It seems you might not have reinstalled Windows during the CPU switch, which could leave some configurations still set to the previous system.
I haven’t reinstalled Windows yet; I thought it would be easier, but it could be the next move. On AMD’s page, the 5600X isn’t even listed in the drivers, which stopped me from reinstalling it, leaving just the chipset issue.
The 5600X should work with standard chipset drivers without needing special ones. Before installing new drivers, remove all existing AMD software completely. It’s unclear if DDU supports removing chipset drivers, but aim to eliminate everything from AMD to avoid a full Windows reinstall.

Did you reset the CMOS? Have you checked if the CPU is properly seated and replaced the thermal paste? Are the temperatures within normal range? Does QLV show the correct memory details for your board or processor? Test the system using only one connection at a time.
Hello, sorry about the Windows reinstall. There have been many issues globally with this. I discovered a fix for my problem now—most likely you can too. On the AMD site I posted the solution: https://community.amd.com/t5/processors/...d-p/532618. In short, update BIOS to the latest (AGESA 1207), enable optimized defaults, turn on XMP/DOCP, save and boot again. Go to the advanced menu, select AMD OVERCLOCKING/accept/precision boost, choose overclock/pBO, switch from auto to advanced. In the PBO settings, change from auto to motherboard and save and boot to Windows. I’m not sure if chipset drivers contributed, but I’ve been using AMD’s newest AM4 drivers since March. No crashes since then! Hope it helps—good luck!
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve already switched to a Gigabyte X570, and everything is fine now. I was thinking about replacing the board initially, but when it began causing issues, I decided to upgrade instead. The old board still has value, so I’m glad you found the info helpful!
