Perform a few speed checks throughout the day, perhaps three per device. Internet tests can differ a lot—try running them in a fresh private or incognito window. You might be amazed at how much the numbers change... In reality, you’ll likely never hit true gigabit performance, but I get why you’re worried about the differences between the two PCs. Varying configurations almost certainly lead to different outcomes. Who can say what background tasks are running on your machine versus your partner’s? It won’t always be a direct match, and I’d say you’re close enough (given the test variability) that they’re practically the same. Also, encourage your partner to sometimes outperform you—it sounds like they value it!
