I enjoy RTS titles but struggle when they feel tough or stressful. My top pick was Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars from 2007. Recent games seem overly complex from the demos (especially the UI). Looking for a past RTS around seven years ago that matches C&C3's style?

Dawn of War 2 came out around 2009, making it a close match but still a solid RTS experience. Company of Heroes 2 is another option to consider. You might also enjoy Age of Empires 2 or 3 available on Steam. Starcraft 2 is decent, though it has a much steeper learning curve compared to the others I mentioned.

Starcraft: Brood War remains highly regarded as a top strategy title and is slated for a remaster featuring high-definition visuals. Blizzard indicated the updated version will become available in the summer. Once the patch drops next week or so, the original game will be fully accessible for download at no cost if you wish to experience it. The core gameplay will remain unchanged. Note: Blizzard currently has a test client on their general forums with the complete game and a trial of the remaster patch—ideal for trying before committing time or money.
