I shared this concern with others. I purchased a copy of Modern Warfare 3 hoping to enjoy multiplayer, similar to how I used to play on the console (which I plan to return to). I was unexpectedly banned from the game (incorrectly) due to VAC issues. After months of waiting, Steam support replied harshly. I wanted to caution people against buying COD games on Steam with an online play intention. It became apparent that many older COD titles had similar false bans. During my brief time in MW3, it was evident hackers were widespread (like wall hacks). Some may question this or dislike it, but it happens more often than you think—often involving false VAC bans.
I was banned from CS GO for violating the rules against hacking.
Typical for non valve titles. Avoid returning to the console.
You should be content knowing you avoided the ban and retained your funds.
