Today I purchased an i7 expecting an upgrade, but when I installed it and booted up, there was no display. I removed RAM one by one until it worked properly, but now it only boots with 1 of the 4 sticks, leaving me with just 4GB instead of 16GB. Can someone confirm if this is due to a BIOS setting? I’m wondering if adjusting that would help. Also, does a lower RAM configuration affect gaming performance on such a setup?

Occasionally it requires getting familiar with the updated setup, beginning with an 8GB allocation, checking if it activates at all (possibly needing several restarts), and then moving to 16GB.

I already damaged three of the four RAM modules you had. When it restarted, it stopped working properly and broke 12GB of your memory. Now your i5 can only use one stick, possibly because the BIOS settings for an i7 are set to allow just a single RAM module.

I attempted to restart several times due to panic about the PC failing. It only shows one stick in the dim 1 slot. Are there any BIOS settings I should adjust to allow more than one stick to work? If I insert more than one stick, I hear three beeps, but my keyboard, mouse, or monitor doesn’t power on.

Possible remnants in RAM might be inactive CPU paths.

That would make sense, but putting the i5 back on my old CPU didn’t work at all

Disconnect the power supply, clear any static on a secure area, take out the CMOS battery, keep the power button pressed briefly, allow it to sit, put the CMOS battery back in, and attempt again.

The problem might stem from the sticks, faulty slots, BIOS glitches, or compatibility issues. Many factors can contribute to this situation.
