Here we have a Lenovo V510 running Windows 10 owned by a friend. Once it starts, the "set user settings to drive failed" message appears. The keyboard and trackpad stop working, along with the USB mouse and keyboard. I noticed the keyboard briefly turns on and off during boot, then the system crashes. It seems like a driver issue, though I’m not sure why it affects both devices. I wasn’t able to perform a safe boot. Any suggestions or solutions?

I recommend exploring recovery methods if possible. This could assist you. https://www.recoverlostpassword.com/wind...enovo.html

@cretsiah : Without a keyboard and trackpad, plug in an external mouse and keyboard (USB) and see if it works.

Attempted using an external keyboard and mouse, but they didn't function.

I would, though I can't wait any longer because the battery is running low. Once it's charged, I can plug it in and try to do whatever I need to do.

Create a bootable USB with Ubuntu on another machine, then detach your laptop's HDD. Attempt to start Ubuntu from the USB to identify the issue.

Sure, I'll do that once I have access to my desktop. Thank you!

You might also attempt connecting your laptop's HDD/SSD to your desktop (disconnect all other drives) and simply restart to test if the issue lies with hardware or software. If the system starts up, you'll be able to identify the problem more clearly. The most effective solution is usually reinstalling Windows that functions properly.

This response comes a bit late. I was expecting maybe between turning on and when Windows would normally begin, to have some temporary keyboard access for booting or recovery. But unfortunately, that didn't happen.

It's similar on my Win 7 PC, yet different on this Windows 10 laptop. I was the first to attempt it, but it didn't work.
