It used to be possible to update it for better performance, but I believed the UDM Pro's backplane wasn't designed for genuine 10Gbps speeds.

It comes very near. Clearly, when deep packet inspection and intrusion prevention are active, speeds will be restricted. However, if you don’t require high performance and maintain the latest firmware, you might reach the 10Gbps target.

Feels a bit uncertain about the current housing and job situation. My goal is to own a home eventually, but that’s not on my radar for now. What I’m focusing on is securing a house in the near future. I stumbled across four products that seemed promising, each with its own set of downsides, and I needed a recommendation either way. Recently, discussions about ASUS GT-AXE16000 have popped up on YouTube and Reddit, mainly discussing odd throttling problems—especially when connected to WiFi. That’s probably steering me toward the Archer. I get that. I’ve been involved in networking for a while, so this is new territory for me. I just wanted gear that would let me utilize more of the bandwidth I’m currently leaving unused. While expecting top performance from consumer devices feels premature, I’m hoping to make the most of it since I already have the setup. I’m aware I won’t be perfect with this choice. Still, my ISP covers about 7 million people and is expanding to 10Gbps soon. Demand will rise quickly, and other providers are likely following suit. It’s exciting to be among the first to experience such improvements. SFP+ ports aren’t ideal for everyday use—you can’t just walk into a local store and grab one. Most people are familiar with RJ-45/Ethernet connections. As a consumer product, I understand the situation. My provider has a solid reputation in my area (better than Comcast or Xfinity), especially since they recently received a government broadband grant during the pandemic, which helped them roll out 10Gbps nationwide. We’ll see how it turns out. I’m hoping this is finally becoming a reality across the country, at least in some form. The connection so far has been reliable.
