Is the MSI MPG B650 EDGE WIFI Mobo compatible with your Ryzen 7800X3D? I’m having trouble getting the BIOS flashback to work even after using a 32 GB USB drive and following all steps. Could you check if it already has the newest BIOS version? Since I’m building a new PC, I wanted to confirm before starting the assembly process to ensure a successful flash. Thanks.

It will start using all BIOS versions, but you need the newest one to avoid SOC voltage problems. If you're facing difficulties, please confirm you're updated before finishing setup, though at least install the CPU and apply the BIOS update via the interface instead of flashing directly.

I’ll handle most of the assembly then. I’ll connect an AIO and install the RAM sticks and M.2 drive. The only parts I can skip are the GPU and case fans. As long as it boots without a BIOS flash, I’m fine. I’ll update the BIOS once it’s running. That previous flashback issue was causing problems, so I’m hoping I didn’t damage anything.

It could be the board was selective about the flash drive used for BIOS flashback. It might not have been formatted properly, or you might have downloaded the wrong BIOS for your ITX board—MSI offers boards like Edge, so if you were distracted while downloading, you could’ve picked the incorrect one. Updating via the GUI provides more details, and based on my experience, updating with a CPU installed is generally much quicker (about 2 minutes instead of 5–6).

I was using a 32 gig USB flash drive. Formatted it once before inserting the BIOS file. It didn’t work. I tried resetting it to factory settings and reformatting via the command prompt, but it still didn’t function. It might be a flash drive issue—perhaps a smaller one would help. Interestingly, my symptoms don’t match anyone else’s. My white light flashes three times before stopping, and the PSU fan makes a faint noise twice with a two-second pause, as if it’s attempting to start but failing. Yes, I have the correct BIOS version for my motherboard—checked multiple times.

I'm familiar with some boards that strongly dislike certain flash drives. From what I've noticed, EVGA tends to be more problematic than MSI in this regard, but it's definitely possible for any board to refuse to work with a specific drive regardless of the situation. This seems like an unusual problem.
