Hi, I’ve spent more than 1200 hours in BF3, mainly doing recon with my .50 cal sniper at distances over 300 meters. I usually play on hardcore servers for a more authentic damage experience—no, you won’t survive a chest shot from that kind of weapon. Because the community in BF3 is shrinking and it feels more like an arcade game, I’m searching for something new to keep my sniper training going. Do you have any recommendations for games with realistic long-range sniping? I was thinking about Arma 3, but I’m not sure how the missions work. Thanks!

The options that stand out are Arma, BF4, America's Army: Proving Grounds, and Squad.

BF4 has caused embarrassment for the Battlefield series. I’ve spent 300 hours playing, and that’s time I’ll never reclaim. I’m looking forward to checking out Americas Army and Squad.

How realistic should it be? Many "war" games place the player in a situation where their character has the right skills and technology to achieve goals or win a conflict. However, in reality, waging war involves more than just resources, weapons, strategies, or intelligence. Social, political, and economic factors play a big role in determining the outcome between nations. Most games tend to focus more on Jomini-style tactics rather than Clausewitz’s deeper insights. In actual life, snipers use a range of methods—sometimes psychological, aiming at leaders or key targets—to weaken enemy morale. In games, it’s mostly about quick reflexes and using the controller efficiently.

I like staying on a hill, keeping a good hiding spot, and picking targets from afar. The satisfaction comes from assisting my teammates, providing cover, identifying threats, and planning my own moves. In Battlefield I often face situations where half the map is behind me, supporting my team with sniper fire while the other half focuses on scouting and defending against attackers who come in fast by car or sneak up. I’ve played a lot of DayZ in Arma II, and that setup matches what I’m after—just the challenge of dealing with one enemy per hour.

Play Arma 3 significantly more smoothly compared to previous versions. Mission mechanics remain confusing.

America's Army: Proving Grounds isn't really my style. Limited to 24 participants. Intimate settings. No relocations required.

This game is really engaging. I suggest trying King of the Hill servers. It feels similar to a battlefield.

Thanks for the feedback. I believe Arma 3 offers a great alternative, allowing me to return to DayZ simultaneously. Many think Arma 3 is superior.

However, I actually enjoy playing more Arma 3 Battle Royale than DayZ.
