Ready to overclock my CPU?
Hello everyone! I have a PC mainly used for gaming and I’m thinking about boosting its performance by overclocking the CPU and checking if upgrading the GPU would help. I’m concerned about whether my system is suitable for overclocking, especially regarding the CPU cooler and power supply unit. Here are my current details:
- CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition
- CPU cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo
- GPU: MSI GTX 960 2gb
- Motherboard: MSI 970 Gaming
- PSU: Rosewill Glacier 600M
- Memory: HyperX Savage 8GB
When idle, my CPU temperatures stay between 14 to 30°C. In games, they can reach up to about 60°C. I’m new to overclocking, so I want to be cautious. My goal is to increase the CPU speed to around 4.4-4.5 GHz.
The evo should handle around 4.5ghz at best. I don't know much about the glacier quality, but the 12v rail gives some room. Try adjusting the fx chips to see if you can reduce voltage while still overclocking, keeping temps and power usage low.
The Glacier series from Rosewill produced by Andyson power supplies isn't particularly good.
