It requires no focus. Essentially a free Windows XP version with major issues. It doesn’t stand out much. Actually, it lay idle for more than a decade before renewed efforts began a couple of years back.

In today’s world, running old software in VMs seems more sensible than relying on ReactOS, especially when it comes to gaming on non-Windows platforms. Valve’s Proton offers a much more practical solution. I’m not trying to criticize ReactOS, but I’m just acknowledging the challenges—there’s still a lot of work left, and having to reverse-engineer everything is frustrating and slow. Progress is moving at a snail’s pace, and it doesn’t look like it will ever become a reliable primary OS for everyday use.

It's not necessary for everything to run on the main operating system. I've used Windows XP virtual machines and prefer React OS instead.

For what reason? ReactOS doesn't really back modern hardware well, and most older XP programs work just fine in a virtual environment.

Microsoft © Windows ™ XP isn't available as free software and I'm cautious about using an operating system without updates or online connectivity.

Configure a fixed IP address on the network card and eliminate the gateway and DNS settings. The device will remain limited to local connectivity.

I understand avoiding VM network access, yet for applications needing connectivity, I prefer running them on a stable operating system.

ReactOS isn't actively supported. It's struggling to stay alive. For Windows compatibility and assistance, apply the POSReady hack on XP and get another year of updates.
