Previously, I received 500mbps from your ISP's FTP servers. Now I’m not getting that speed anymore. They claim the issue isn’t with them, and I’m pretty confident it’s not on my side either.

Assuming you're connected using CAT5E ethernet cables directly to your modem, run a speedtest.net and fast.com test, then share the results. Ensure you black out any identifying information, such as your public IP address. Feel free to describe any recent hardware, software, or networking changes too, as these things can help us understand what might be causing your slower speeds. Also, please correctly capitalize MBps (vs. Mbps) when referring to different measurements to ensure people don't accidentally get confused. I know you meant 60MBps = 500mbps (technically 480mbps), but not everyone will right off the bat.

No updates to the hardware. I just added a few VPNs recently.

You're certain you're not relying on a VPN while checking speed tests? Because using one would limit the maximum speeds shown.

Absolutely certain I’m not relying on a VPN when connecting to my local FTP server. That lesson from Linus was definitely helpful.

The initial thought is the problem might lie with the modem or your internet line. PC network configurations usually handle traffic directions without issue, but confirm your device supports 1Gb speed. Check that your adapter isn’t using 2.5 or 10Gb ports, as those can cause negotiation conflicts with routers. It’s unlikely this is the main cause. If you’re using a laptop, ensure it’s not on battery power, since many laptops throttle speeds in that state. Test another PC directly connected to the modem to verify speed consistency. If both wired devices perform similarly, the fault likely resides with the modem or upstream connection.

Previously, I had a connection of 500 Mbps (about 60 MBps) using cat5e and cat6 cables. Without any hardware upgrades or router adjustments, my current speed is limited to 100 Mbps.

The ISP updated the ONU's capacity on their side, and the issue is resolved. (They thought I wasn't reading well.)
