Hi there, I just got online after an accident and RE4 Remake is now available. I expect it won’t be possible to play for a while—at least a month or more. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. I’ve played the original RE4 on PC and PS2; using a keyboard and mouse is really tough, probably because of the PC’s outdated optimization. Switching to the PS2 controller made things much easier, especially with the laser dot removed. For anyone who’s played the remake, please share your experience. Thanks in advance!

Capcom and poor controls are essentially a Hiemal-class anomaly now. If they disappear, the other one will lose its mind.

Many video games rely heavily on the developers' selection of interface kernels and drivers, which define their commands. In typical remakes such as RE4, these elements often perform well both visually and in gameplay. However, when budget constraints affect remakes, control design becomes a common issue. If the development team neglected or handled controls poorly, two main solutions emerge: using standard PC keyboard functions or switching to console-to-PC controller setups. A clear case is the original Mass Effect trilogy’s initial PC release, where the devs reportedly ignored controller porting and instead focused on other aspects. This decision sparked criticism, as it appeared they treated the project like a superficial change rather than a thoughtful adaptation. Eventually, EA reverted to porting the games for PC, resulting in the well-known edition. Remakes paired with console-to-PC ports can be frustrating due to the complexity of custom gamepad configurations, making it seem like a simple task for someone new.
