Raspberry Pi 3 with Bluetooth connectivity
Raspberry Pi 3 with Bluetooth connectivity
I've been using my R-pi3 as a smart TV since launch, and I just installed the latest Rasbian release because it's simpler than upgrading. I'm trying to check if Bluetooth is enabled yet. Does Bluetooth work on the R-pi3? Could someone please share a link?
It is not visible in the interface, and there are no recent official updates about it.
CNET provides a helpful guide on turning on Bluetooth, though I haven’t confirmed its functionality on my RPi 3 at home.
Thanks! I’ll try it when I’m back. I think it won’t be that simple, or else it would be as straightforward as Bluetooth on my laptop with open drivers.
I've been using Linux for more than ten years and hold a postgraduate compsci degree with published work on embedded systems. I posted on the local RPi mailing list at the same time, so it's uncertain if I'll receive any reply. Still appreciating your thoughts. I'm just puzzled why Bluetooth isn't functioning properly on the newest image with GUI yet. It feels like almost a year since I got the latest Pi3, and I'm let down that the downloaded image doesn't include Bluetooth out of the box. It's disappointing, as RPi seems to struggle in New Zealand due to import taxes and limited driver support compared to other options.
Certainly, the compatibility for such features can be uncertain on the RPi. However, I successfully used a Bluetooth dongle with the RPi2 without any problems.
I examined the Kodi image—it was quite poor quality. There was a script for Apple Remote that didn’t work, and most plugins are outdated unless you create your own API key, which is now very limited for me. The Pi3 runs smoothly, though its Bluetooth setup is lacking. I want it to function out of the box so I can promote it at the LUG, but usability is an issue. For the price in New Zealand, a Nvidia shield and Chrome wireless would be better options. It’s disappointing, but I’ll wait six more months and check again. Cheers.
