Range extender slows performance. Assistance needed.
Your connection speeds have dropped significantly, especially when switching between routers. This could be due to signal degradation over the cable, interference, or improper configuration. Even with a wired range extender, performance might still suffer if the setup isn't optimized. Check cables, router settings, and distance between devices for improvement.
I set up the dlink router as an access point rather than an extender, which means it won't use the cable connection. It should connect wirelessly to the main router. You'll need to switch it to AP mode and create a distinct network for the upper floor. This way, devices will always connect to the strongest available network regardless of location.
I configured it as a range extender. Then I moved the router to the top and linked the cable to the wan port (the other end went to the main router’s wan). When connecting my laptop wirelessly to the top floor router, even though I was close, I got about 10 Mbps. Using a wired connection via one of the LAN ports of the range extender gave me 40 Mbps.
i checked setting up next to the top floor router. i configured it as a range extender and linked a wire from the main router's lan port to the range extender's wan port. when connecting my laptop wirelessly, even while standing close, i got about 10 mbps. however, using a cable connected to one of the lan ports of the range extender gave me 40 mbps.
Configure the main router in AP mode and create a fresh network for use on the upper floor. Connect the cable via a LAN port, not a WAN port.
