Random shutdowns refer to unexpected power cuts or system restarts.
Hi. I recently updated the components of my self-built desktop and now experience random shutdowns. It happens while playing games or streaming Netflix. Previously, with an I7-8700K CPU, an MSI motherboard, and Corsair Vengeance RAM, everything worked fine. The PSU was used for six months without any problems. I've tried updating the BIOS, checking settings, verifying cables, updating drivers, running stress tests, and inspecting the CPU for issues, but nothing changed. The computer frequently shuts down except for one BSOD. Over the past weeks, there have been eight complete shutdowns (08.06 - 2, 10.06 - 2, 11.06 - 2 with 1 BSOD, 12.06 - 2). Could this be related to the motherboard or PSU? All hardware—CPU, motherboard, RAM, and AIO—is brand new, while the PSU is about six months old. My specs are: CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, Motherboard - ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS, RAM - G.Skill DDR5 6000MHz 32GB, PSU - Corsair RM850e 850W AIO, Be Quiet Pure Loop 360mm.
I'm using a specific GPU and the RAM timing details are available upon request. Let me know if you'd like that information.
Opt for the standard settings on the BIOS for the motherboard. Keep the RAM at its default rate without XMP or Expo enhancements; just let it operate at the base configuration. Look for driver updates for your network and Windows OS. After everything is set to defaults and all hardware has the latest drivers, attempt to launch the system. While doing so, use Event Viewer to clear logs, ensuring you have a clean set of records for future reference.
I've tried with default basic settings but that sets ex. the ram speed to 4800 mhz instead of 6000. Right now im only running default settings except manually putting ram to 6000. Every driver is updated and the event viewer logs leave me with nothing. Just a "critical" error where it tells me that windows has shut down unexpectedly when i boot it from a crash
I'm working with an MSI GeForce RTX 3070 GAMING Z TRIO, which has default BIOS settings of "auto." It operates at 6000 MHz and CL36 (36-36-36-96). I've attempted to adjust it to 4800 MHz in the BIOS, but that caused even more crashes. Something's not working right.
I tested around nine Windows Memtest units and found no errors. Recently, I spent a week trying various solutions. It looks like the motherboard or BIOS might be the issue—seems many users have encountered similar problems with this setup. I returned all the new components for warranty verification and hope they can replace the faulty motherboard. Thank you for your assistance!
