Random shutdowns occur during gaming sessions.
Hello, my setup began to freeze into a complete black screen and remained stuck on that state until I restarted. This issue started about two months ago, only occurring during gaming sessions and not while idle. It typically happens every 5 to 6 hours, but the cause is unclear. If anyone has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
I attempted to resolve the problem by:
- Updating my AMD drivers
- Reinstalling GPU drivers after cleaning with DDU
- Updating my BIOS version
- Trying to undervolt the CPU using BIOS settings (set to 1.2v)
My hardware details are as follows:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
Motherboard: MSI A520M PRO
GPU: ASUS GEFORCE TUF RTX 3060 TI 8GB 256bit GDDR6
RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz
PSU: Cooler Master MWE Bronze 650W V2
Bios version: 1.J0
that's what I thought and attempted to lower the voltage, but it didn't really make a difference. Maybe swapping out my PSU for a 750w one would be sufficient for this setup?
Absolutely, I'm uncertain. That's why it's important to conduct tests before deciding a component requires replacement.
I believe he suggested it had functioned with that PSU until recently. How did you ensure it was clearly defective? I’ve worked in electronics for nearly seventy years, and I wouldn’t be certain a component is faulty until I replaced it and verified the issue was resolved. He might have assumed the PSU was bad without proof. If he’s mistaken, he’d have wasted resources. If someone could lend a hand, replacing it would make sense as a troubleshooting step to check if it’s the root cause. In a workshop with parts available, swapping components could quickly identify the problem. Most people don’t have that advantage.
If he can locate someone to try it out himself, he understands. I didn't instruct him to purchase a psu; I merely informed him that it's prepared for failure, since eventually it will burst and destroy the motherboard, memory, and card. No bronze psu provides the expected power.
