For a while now, my PC has been acting oddly—spinning up all the case fans at full speed and then gradually slowing them down over 20 to 30 seconds. This happens whether the system is busy or idle. All fans are directly connected to the motherboard and managed by the BIOS. I haven’t installed any additional fan software, and none I’m aware of has caused this. After replacing the motherboard, CPU, and GPU, the problem persists. I recently performed a fresh Windows installation using the setup.exe tool, preserving my files and programs. Unfortunately, that didn’t resolve the issue. A full Windows reset might help, but I’d rather avoid reinstalling everything. Do you have any other ideas I should consider? Thanks!
If the problem is software-based, a fix could come from the software itself. I've been using Fan Control on my machine for some time now, and it performs very well. It provides full management of all fans and requires minimal resources. You can configure it to activate at system startup, effectively replacing any actions Windows might take with your fans. https://getfancontrol.com/
It should consider CPU temperature. Some BIOS options allow creating a fan curve, but others don't.
Your audience likely monitors the CPU temperature. When fans increase, it’s possible the CPU temperature rose earlier. Or there might be another factor at play. Have you looked in the BIOS to see how the fans work? Are they configured for DC or PWM? Is a fan curve defined? Alternatively, you could simply ignore the BIOS (besides confirming if they’re set correctly) and use Fan Control software to manage fans via Windows.
The fans are all DC and set up properly with a fan curve. I included a half-second delay before they adjust to the CPU temperature. I plan to test the software.
It seems the issue isn't related to temperature, as it occurs unpredictably even in games with steady loads. The CPU often spikes to full capacity and takes a long time to recover.
Fan Control allows you to increase case fans based on CPU and GPU temperatures. Remember that a motherboard will boost its DC fans to full speed only once during startup (as seen with my last motherboard). Updated on Nov 28, 2023 by leclod
