Random Reboots - no clear reason identified?
over the last 2 to 3 weeks i've been dealing with this problem, i'm really unsure what to do since i tried nearly everything and did extensive research online. the situation: the pc randomly restarts at irregular times—last time it worked for 18 hours, the next for just an hour... and it's been this way ever since. for gaming it can last up to 5 hours, while other times it crashes within the first minutes of playing. i'm unable to identify a consistent trigger for this issue, and whenever it happens the pc shuts down and restarts again. (the fans stop spinning briefly before coming back online).
i've checked the temperatures, they seem normal, even after cleaning the cpu cooler which brought better temps, but the problem persists.
so far i've done:
- replaced gpu
- replaced ram
- replaced psu
- cleaned windows and installed a fresh os
- disabled automatic restarts in windows settings
- installed linux
- removed case connectors, kept only the pw switch connected
- removed cmos battery and used a new one
the only part i haven't tried yet is the motherboard and cpu, because i don't have spare parts. i haven't updated bios, but i think it's not an issue since i've been using this pc for over 5 years.

The motherboards are almost ten years old! I think the capacitors are probably failed.
Yeah, I need to upgrade too. I was thinking about it soon, but this issue has been a hassle because it's really hard to recreate. I'm concerned it might keep happening even after replacing parts. As for the motherboard, I don't see much room for cheaper capacitors, but it seems like the most sensible choice right now. Anyone else had similar problems with a motherboard before? I'm still unsure if it's the power supply unit that's the problem. Maybe I'll run another test using a different PSU with another PC, but it'll take a lot of time.
someone might be interested: it was likely the CPU. I managed to recreate the problem with OCCT, and the PC would always crash during the CPU stability test within the first few minutes—never reaching five minutes without a reboot. I checked the BIOS and turned off all cores except one, and the PC didn’t crash during the same test for an hour. It could still be a motherboard issue, but none of the other components caused crashes, suggesting the CPU was probably the culprit about 99%.
