I explored several videos about mixing RAM kits and wondered whether using separate kits from different channels could improve performance. I’m curious if this approach has been tried before and what the results might be.

I've always arranged my RAM kits one stick per kit per channel. This approach has consistently worked well for me, even though I haven't tested mixing speeds in reverse. Back in the SDRAM era, I mixed a 256MB 133MHz stick into slot A and a 128MB 133MHz stick into slot B on an old Pentium 4 system without any issues. Over time, this method has proven reliable across all systems I've upgraded. I've also accepted using speeds below the official limits—like running DDR-400 on an older machine or accepting DDR-333 on a DDR-333 system. Now that my setup uses DDR4-3200, which matches the supported standard for the 5900X, mixing still doesn’t cause significant stress on the memory controller. Running DDR4-4000 with more than two sticks would be even riskier.
