hey guys so my Dell E520 Lan rig runs: A Q6600 6GB DDR2 800 GTX 550ti 1tb WD Caviar Blue 7200rpm 400w 80+ Bronze psu. so my problem is that the pc will run fine doing anything... mostly, i say mostly because at random times the pc goes on a Hanging fit where it will hang (mouse stops moving audio stutters Video stutters etc) which is really irritating when watching youtube but the thing is it doesn't seem to happen when gaming however that's yet to be confirmed. now i can already see the comments of "ItS aN 11 YeAR oLd DeSKtop UpGrAde" however this desktop runs fantastic aside from this hanging which isn't anything to do with its age as i ran an LGA 775 system with a weaker E7400 that worked flawlessly with no hanging so right now im starting to think its either a WIN 7 issue or the awful GTX 550ti and its drivers in it right now (it will be getting a 750ti or an RX460 soon). anyone had this issue or know what it could be?
Thermals are functioning properly after installing Windows 7 on my PCs. All tests passed. For the 550ti model, it performs well with no overheating issues. In fact, its specs are solid and it maintains a stable temperature. I also monitor system specs closely—both stay within normal ranges—and the Task Manager never shows excessive RAM or CPU usage during performance issues.
The memory manager moves parts of it to the page file, leaves some RAM available on the hard drive, and commits a certain amount of space. On an 8GB laptop with over 12GB used, your friend experienced speed improvements after upgrading to 16GB.
All six gigabytes are recognized and functioning in Windows 7. The Task Manager displays about 2.5 gigabytes of RAM usage while Mozilla Firefox is playing YouTube and three additional sites, Steam is active, and Twitch is launched. I understand the RAM isn’t the problem since the GPU issue resolved itself when I added the problematic one. I’m documenting this as a driver-related concern, but I’m struggling to locate older drivers for the 550TI.
The page file represents a section of your storage dedicated to memory tasks. It can transfer RAM data to the disk during low-power modes, such as standby when power is unavailable or when insufficient RAM exists. In some cases, it switches to using the hard drive as additional memory, similar to how certain hardware configurations utilize SSD flash for large video buffers despite slower speeds. On Windows, this behavior is dynamic, whereas on Linux it remains a fixed partition matching the RAM size.
