I'm really at the end of my understanding here. The situation is quite detailed, so please accept that it might take some time to get through. I recently assembled a brand new PC about three years ago, gradually improving my old one over the years. Here are the details:

- Case: Sliger SM580
- CPU: i9 13900k
- RAM: 32GB DDR5 5600 CL28
- Cooler: NZXT Z63 280 AiO
- Mainboard: ASUS Strix Z790-I
- PSU: ThermalTake ToughPower 850W SFX
- GPU: RTX3060 (a bit unusual – I was hoping for the 4080 but ended up using a 1080 until it arrived)
- SSD: 2TB and 1TB WD SN770
- OS: Windows 11

I applied the thermal paste again around April and then replaced the RTX3060 with a 4080 FE. Everything seemed normal until about a year ago. I was always critical of the 13900k choice and had seen many videos about AMD X3D chips, RAM speeds, etc. I thought a faster RAM and more RAM would help, plus I planned to upgrade to 64GB for future games.

I ordered Corsair Vengeance 64GB CL32, which was advertised to exceed 8000MHz but ended up at 6800MHz after overclocking. I swapped the GPU and started playing again. Performance was barely noticeable, but I didn’t mind much since I had more RAM for the future.

After a couple of weeks, my games began crashing often. A memory test revealed faulty RAM sticks. I replaced them and rechecked everything. For a few weeks it worked, but crashes returned. I disabled XMP and it improved, though it was still frustrating.

About three to four months ago, crashes became severe again. I contacted Intel about the problem and received a new CPU instead of the damaged one. But I didn’t install it, sold the old one, and got a 9800X3D with replacements two months later.

Recently, my games kept crashing too. The 9800X3D was overheating even at idle with many tabs open (including a YouTube video). Under heavy load it reached around 95°C. I suspect the heat might be due to improper PTM application or a cooler misalignment. I removed the cooler, cleaned it, and reapplied the paste – most components looked fine.

Anyone have insights on what might be causing these issues? Or suggestions for further troubleshooting? Thanks for your help!

Have you checked if the firmware for the SN770 2TB has been updated? There’s a known issue that leads to crashes on Windows 11. It might not always trigger a BSOD, but it’s worth trying.
