The Ryzen model still lacked a solid memory controller. Performance varied widely based on modules, and using four sticks added complexity. Basic advice: Check system stability first—only then adjust XMP settings. Lower speeds like 2666 or 2600 are safer if stability isn't confirmed. This generation doesn't offer much value since stability depends heavily on the load.
I assembled a system for my mom using an older R7 1700X, which could run at 2x16GB 3200 MHz. Next, I plan to remove parts one by one, beginning with the secondary graphics card.
I removed the secondary GPU and turned on XMP settings. I added two new BSOD entries: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Now it’s stuck in a BSOD loop. Cool!
I'm planning to take out my A1 and B1 RAM sticks now. Seeing if that makes a difference... Also noticing more RAM-related BSODs when I enable XMP beyond those two. Updated July 23, 2024 – BSOD collection is growing.
They probably didn’t like me for handling those 4 8GB RAM modules.
