Hello! Thank you for reading my update. I hope this gives some clarity on how to tackle these problems.
To recap:
- In Valheim, every roughly 30 minutes (save window possibly?) my PC freezes completely and triggers a BSOD with specific error codes.
- I can play other games without issues, like the God of War session I just finished without any crashes.
Have you adjusted the clock speed or voltage of your components? Are you applying XMP profiles? Our hardware is used in various ways, so a stable overclock or voltage adjustment works for about nine out of ten games. Perhaps Valheim uses your system differently, leading to instability. For instance, when I first tried overclocking my 3080 Ti, I believed I achieved a reliable boost. It performed stably across all titles and even met high benchmarks. But once I switched to Forza Horizon 5, the stability disappeared completely.
You can test using a Windows 10 copy too. Windows 11 offers some hardware optimization features that may cause instability for games not optimized for it. Start by running DDU, updating the latest driver, and skip installing GeForce Experience. Turn off Steam Overlay for that game. Minimize background activities like browsers, Discord, Obs, etc.
My graphics card and CPU aren’t boosted beyond their limits. I’ve turned on XMP for my RAM to let it operate at maximum performance, but that’s the end of it.
Check if disabling XMP affects your system crashes. XMP is a CPU overclock feature.
CPU has performed well and handled everything I give it since buying it in March 2021. I've used Handbrake several times for encoding videos, etc., which often pushes the CPU to full capacity, indicating a solid test. Temperatures stay under 70°C, and the PSU is a Corsair TX850M purchased on January 18th, 2022, replacing an older unit that was eight years old. It's another Corsair build but not modular.
This was the final effort to fix the problem—swapping out the M.2 SSD. It’s the sole hardware change made when the issue began, along with setting up Windows 11. Since Windows 11 is stable for my setup and I’ve already reinstalled several times (including Windows 10), this hardware issue seems likely to be the cause of those strange BSoD messages. If anyone has alternative ideas, I’d love to hear them. I’ll let you know once the new SSD is in place, thanks to Amazon’s excellent returns policy. ~Dezrin
I've encountered the same problem too, the only thing we have in common is our shared generation of GPU. I'm using an Nvidia GeForce RTX3070 and have been checking for possible fixes. I'm also wondering if thermal throttling on the GPU might be contributing to the issue, though I haven't confirmed it yet.
