Hello,
I’m really struggling right now with a persistent problem that’s been happening for a few weeks.
My PC suddenly goes black during gaming sessions. All four monitors turn off instantly, but the system continues to run, the lights stay on, and the fans spin. I still hear my game audio, though not everything is clear—like when playing CS, I catch ambient sounds but miss shooting or walking noises. Friends talking on Discord also disappear after a few seconds of black screen. Eventually, I just press the power button and restart manually.

The issue happens unpredictably and inconsistently. Sometimes it lasts for hours without happening, other times it occurs in minutes. I’ve tried many solutions: changing power settings, adjusting NVIDIA controls, using DDU, switching outlets, running memory tests, resetting CMOS/BIOS, reformatting the SSD, disabling hardware acceleration, and even reinstalling Windows. Still nothing works.

Additionally, pressing CTRL+WIN+SHIFT+B doesn’t resolve it. I logged temperatures via HWiNFO during crashes, and everything looked normal. The event viewer shows a NVLDDMKM Event ID 14 error sometimes, but not always. There’s also a recurring GameInput service shutdown warning, though again, not consistently.

My hardware details:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super
- Motherboard: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI
- CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken x52 240mm Liquid Cooler
- RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z RBG series DDR4 32GB 3200MHz
- Power supply: Corsair 650W CP-9020177-NA RMX SeriesRM550x 80 Plus Gold
- Case: Corsair CARBIDE 275R Mid-Tower
- OS: Windows 10 on Samsung EVO SATA 250GB SSD

I’m really hoping you can assist me.

I tested with a 1050TI to check if my GPU was failing after a full day of use and FurMark ran overnight. It worked without any issues, so it doesn’t necessarily mean the card is dead. It could also indicate the PSU isn’t providing enough power for the 2070S.

The PSU might not suit the 2070S. It would be hard to determine if the issue is with the 2070S or if a more powerful PSU is required until you test with a higher wattage unit or use another PC with a better one. I wouldn't claim you have a dead card when it's actually just causing problems with a new card. This PSU could assist in identifying the problem.

It's important to confirm whether you're using a 550W or 650W PSU. The purchase date and whether it was new are also relevant. Nvidia suggests a minimum of 650W for your GPU, but searching for CP-9020177-NA only returns information about the 550W model. It's possible the 550W was sufficient in the past but has degraded over time, no longer meeting current power requirements.
