Hey there, I had an unusual experience just ten minutes ago and have a few questions. To start, the setup was pretty consistent—same power supply, cables, fuses. My gaming PC is drawing around 350 watts at full failure, the Unraid server about 50 watts, TV and other gear roughly 150 watts. The issue came from a terrarium with two heat lamps (total 300 watts). I was editing websites all night when at 10:00 the lamp timer turned them on. After some time passed, one of the bulbs popped and the lights went out completely. I checked everything, switched all PC power cords to another circuit, then restarted everything. When the server finally started, it didn’t post and I began troubleshooting. I swapped the RAM sticks just to see if that would help—more out of nervousness than strategy.

At first, nothing happened. Then I booted up normally but only had one RAM stick working. Oddly enough, right before an upgrade yesterday, the PSU arrived early. I’d already installed it (Super Flower Leadex 600W). I upgraded because I wanted more SATA power and the other was outdated. Now I’m wondering if a good PSU could handle the overload so nothing gets damaged. Was the popping lamp responsible for an overcurrent? Is there a way to figure out exactly what failed? It’s possible one RAM slot or stick died, which is why it turned on when I changed them. Luckily, my main PC wasn’t affected, and the PSU inside was 1000W.

I’m curious about the RAM slot—could it be that the dead stick caused the issue? I’m planning a parity check now to confirm everything’s fine, then back up what I can, and wait until I get new hardware before turning it off. Just want to hear your thoughts on this. If you have any logs or details, feel free to share—I’ll post whatever helps!
