Ram timings help.
Ram timings help.
I'm just starting out with manually tweaking RAM timings and need plenty of guidance. The kits I have are 2 F4-3600C14D-32GTZN. I thought the BIOS could handle tighter sub timings, but I can't seem to adjust anything without the system freezing or entering safe mode. If it does boot eventually, there are several errors when running TM5 to check the settings. I'm not sure how to handle them.
Reviewing previous adjustments:
Why are the RAM timings being modified?
What is the purpose or necessity behind this change?
What improvements can be anticipated?
Begin with the motherboard's official resources.
Visit the manufacturer's website for the motherboard and consult the User Guide/Manual to confirm supported RAM types and configurations.
Also, refer to the Qualified Vendor's list for any announcements from makers about compatible RAM.
The goal is to confirm that the existing RAM setup remains valid.
Generally, with my previous setup, the system would freeze when loading certain games and maps, along with some stuttering. The new setup performs better—no freezing and reduced stuttering, though occasional issues still occur. Some advice suggested adjusting sub timings to improve stability. Increasing lows by 1% in games could help reduce stutter. I've also heard that running the kit at 3800 with the same settings might work, but I'm unsure how to achieve that without triggering a boot loop.
Ignore the timing adjustments. Turn on XMP, preserve your settings, exit BIOS. If the system boots properly, return to BIOS and raise the DRAM voltage slightly, following the smallest increment permitted. Save your changes, exit BIOS, then open Windows to check if the issue persists. If it does, revisit BIOS and increase the voltage again using the smallest possible step. Continue this process until the problem disappears. The main concern here could be having multiple memory kits installed. This implies not all DIMMs have been tested for compatibility with each other. It doesn’t matter if they match in model or not. Refer to section two of the "Mixed memory" guide: How To - Troubleshooting problems with PC memory (RAM) and XMP profile configurations Start by checking your motherboard’s specific product page, including the revision details. This is crucial since different revisions may exist for the same model. You can also consult forums such as forums. and the thread about AMD RAM compatibility: https://forums. Test each kit individually in the A2 and B2 slots to identify any separate issues.
There was a kit identical to the one described, featuring four dimmers. It had the model F4-3600C14Q-64GTZN but cost more than purchasing two 32GB kits. I'm considering trying it out. The main issue is that each time I need access to all four RAM slots, I have to remove the CPU cooler. The DR4P already extends into one slot, and with the fan running, it completely covers all four.
Being an enthusiast means facing some bothersome aspects occasionally. Knowledge grows in these situations.
Fair enough. I've already had to re seat the cpu cooler like 20 times already with this build so what's another one? Or another 8 in this case. With only one of the kits installed at a time there were no issues. Both even ran at 3800 easily. With all 4 in there is seems like 3600 is the max. Computer just won't boot with anything higher. Although I did get it to run at 14-14-14-14-34 which was the timings on the kits that were $150 more total than these kits. From the stickers looks like both kits were manufactured in October at least.
Still haven't checked into the sub timings more yet though. Assuming that 4 sticks would've run at 3800. Which would've been better all things even. 3600 14-14-14-14-34 or 3800 16-16-16-16-36? Also is ddr4 really that touchy? It's about 50/50 when I seat the ram as to weather or not I get a 0d code when trying to boot and have to re seat them again to get it to boot. Even though I'm sure I seated them the same each time. Never had this issue with ddr3 ram.
There's always so much more that I don't know and need to learn.
What mistakes occurred during the TM5 test? Which configuration was applied?
anta777 extreme config in tm5 caused issues with their absolute configuration. It crashed consistently when attempting to load it. The errors appeared at specific timing intervals—4, 8, 12, 14—and another pattern showed 1, 2, 6, 10. Some adjustments passed initial tests but failed subsequent ones.
