So bit of a weird question and it might be that my car engine knowledge is false framing my RAM knowledge. I have a 32Gb kit of 3200 corsair dominator RAM and for the last 7 years have had it running at 2133, my CPU didn't properly allow the 3200 so i just ran it at that. Yesterday I ordered a r9 5950X and now was wondering if the ram still be able to run at 3200? the question mainly comes from a car i have that has always being driven gently and slow to pull up and it made the engine "weaker and lazy" in the low RPM. Am i just overthinking this?
It's true, some boards come pre-set to 2666 MHz and you'll need to turn on RAM overclocking in the BIOS. However, my 5900X is running smoothly with a Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3200 module right now. Also, keep in mind that if your current board uses an AM4 socket and you intend to repurpose it, check its cooling setup for VRM—its capacity might be insufficient for the 5950X's higher heat output. Many boards could also require a BIOS update, sometimes possible through USB, while others may need a different AM4 model if you can't perform the flash via USB. If that's not an option, you'll likely have to install an older AM4 board for the BIOS upgrade. I was fortunate my Asus B550 Plus was already compatible with the 5000-series without any changes. You’d likely need to remove the RAM module, unless the model number indicates otherwise. Just let me know if you want to confirm.
