It actually backs higher performance too. Intel doesn’t make it obvious they support it. A 3200Mhz system works perfectly just fine.

This setup only achieves its limits on a standard non-Z series board. On a Z-series board, performance matches the combined capabilities of RAM, CPU memory controller, and motherboard, which can differ but rarely exceed 2666. Speeds above 2666 aren't assured. DDR 2666 feels slow compared to modern standards. DDR 3200 is reliably achievable. DDR 3600 offers a dependable option. Speeds surpassing 4000 require significant adjustments and are less likely to function smoothly.

The Z series board was launched for the 9th generation CPUs. 3200 usually fits with XMP at 99%, 3600 likely works with XMP (possibly some SA voltage), and 3800+ should support extra SA and DRAM voltages.
