Hello everyone, I'm planning to set up a new gaming setup soon and stumbled upon the Asrock Z370 Extreme4. After checking their site, I noticed the specifications mentioned that 8th generation CPUs support DDR4 up to 2666MHz. The RAM I’m considering is from Skroutz (https://www.skroutz.gr/s/11105234/G-Skil...6GTZR.html). Will the motherboard automatically lower the clock speed to 2666MHz, and if so, can I push it to 3200MHz? Also, I plan to use an i5 8600K and might try overclocking it to 5.0 or 5.1 GHz.

You can boost the memory speed to 3200MHz, which is an overclocking step.

Yes, you must turn on XMP to support running it at 3200MHz.

You don’t need to, but there’s still more to handle. XMP simply applies a profile created by the maker. You can manage it on your own if you took the time to set it up.

Ensure the system runs smoothly at default BIOS settings before making any changes. Add monitoring tools such as HWinfo64 prior to proceeding. The ideal maximum CPU core voltage under proper cooling is 1.4V. The value you input won't reflect the real applied voltage, so aim for a setting around 5 to 9 levels. After launching Windows, verify HWinfo's VR Vout reading—this represents the actual core voltage—by testing with workloads like Cinebench R15, Prime95 smallFFT, and games. If VR Vout isn't present, look at the Vcore measurement. It provides a reasonable estimate.
